Summary:  I have been waiting a long time to hit a big game @ UT.  10 years I would estimate.  Was it worth it?  Yea, but not in the way I expected.  This is the fifth time I've been to Austin in my lifetime, starting 20 years ago but with four trips four trips in the past five years.  Austin is a very cool place but like most cool places it's losing it's identity to money culture and corporate conformity and other tiny testicle ways of life.  Food is still great though!

AccommodationsStayed at an Airbnb in South Austin. Was able to make a return trip to the Moontower saloon and hit up a place called "The Yard" that is, more or less, a fancy strip mall that had a brewery, a winery and a distillery.  I hit all three! Trifecta!

Pre-game:  It was 100 fucking degrees the entire weekend. So my pregame was not nearly as involved as usual.  I started out by getting some Mexican food at Gueros taco bar, an Austin institution on South Congress. I know parking is a real pain in the ass so I took an e-assist bike across town.  It was actually really fun, and I would consider buying one.  The down side was that they are sponsored by Uber so I got a 25 dollar fine for parking it in the wrong spot.  It was a fucking bullshit fine, I parked it next to about 50 of the scooters also managed by Uber.  The moral of the story...Fuck Uber.

I stopped for a couple of cheap beers on 6th street.  Hung around the tailgate for a bit but it was so hot I don't think the tailgate was quite as crazy as it would have been if it were 10-15 degrees cooler.

Game Experience:   This was the first legit big game at Texas in a long time.  Well maybe not that long as they played Notre Dame recently, but this was a good early season match-up.  Even though it was almost 100 degrees at kick the game was comfortable, at least in the stands.  People weren't overly obnoxious or drunk maybe too hot for that.  Crowd was loud but never insane like other crowds I've seen.  Again, maybe drunk but probably not.

There was some side entertainment.  A couple of seats down there were two guys in their 50s.  Midway through the first quarter a third guy came by and claimed he had their ticket, he was in his 50s or 60s.  They told him to GTFO.  This asshole goes away and comes back with the police who find in his favor.

Evidently one of the guys dropped his ticket and someone picked it up and sold it to the complainer.  So this turd ended up getting two seats.  This also raised some interesting questions.  Did the ticket scan twice?  How did the dude drop his ticket and still get in?

Post Game:   So I have a special story this trip.  Full disclosure, as an adult I have shit my pants twice.  On my way to the airport I was overcome with a need to relieve myself.  I was very close to shitting my pants again. I was in panic mode and knew I was near an REI. I got to REI (I"m a member goddamn it!) and was able to do my business but I had to throw my keys and sunglasses on the floor...it was close.

I get outside and promptly get into a very minor accident backing out of my space.  We were both backing up and it was just one of those things. Anyway, after both sides calmed down a bit I mentioned why I was there and said "Most expensive dump of my life!". Fortunately they had a sense of humor and I got a laugh.

Stadium:  DKR (Daryl K Royal) Stadium is fine, it's not my favorite. There isn't anything that sticks out to me from an architectural standpoint.  They are expanding it, adding seats to one of the end zones.

These tickets were expensive, I don't even want to admit how much I paid.   However I did two things properly. I monitored the tickets and when prices didn't come down on Friday evening I went ahead and pulled the trigger.  Prices never came down and I got really good value compared to the people around me.

I also bought in the first row of the upper deck.  If you don't know a stadium I think that is the best value spot. In the future I'll be targeting row 1 of the upper deck for the big games.

Overall:  I never thought I would have to wait this long for a big game at Texas. I'm 100% glad I did it but will not be back for a while.  I've been to Austin a bunch of times, time to branch out.
