Big 10 Championship (Big 10) 2018

College:   Big 10 Championship
Year:       2018
Game:     Ohio State 45 Northwestern 24
Rating:    9
Cost Index:  Mid
Stadium:  Lucas Oil Stadium

If you want to make it part of a larger trip:  Chicago, Columbus
Don't Miss:   2022 CFP Championship game
Avoid:  Staying an extra night in Indianapolis
Attendees:  Bones, Clyde, Polychronopolis, CarlMart, O-Line Guy

Summary:  Sort of a last minute trip, my friend Clyde the football ref flew out to Chicago.  We were contemplating going to the SEC Championship but it was too expensive so we decided to make the day trip down from Chicago to Indianapolis.

We just dipped in and out for the game.  Very efficient trip.  There were five of us total, one of which is a o-line coach for a college football team.  The reason I know this is the kid discussed every play in excruciating detail....note to people in general...not all of us want a running commentary on things..sometimes it's really nice if everyone can just shut the fuck up and enjoy the experience.

Ohio State vs. Northwestern isn't the sexiest matchup but the game was decent.

Pre-game:  We stayed about a mile west of the stadium in the Fletcher Place neighborhood at an Airbnb.  Ended up hanging out at the Chilly Water Brewery before the game to watch the SEC Championship game.  On one hand, the SEC Championship game was great...kind of wish we had spent the money...on the other hand I don't know if I can stomach watching Georgia piss away another game to Alabama.  I belabor the point but if you are a Georgia football fan over the past three years you have 28-3, last years National Championship game and this year's SEC Championship game...at this point you have football fan PTSD.

Game Experience:  As much as I can't stand Indianapolis (every third dude walking down the street looks like Larry the Cable guy) I have to say Lucas Oil has a big time environment. I will do everything in my power to go to the CFP Championship game when it is there in three years.

Northwestern was competitive but never really challenged Ohio State.  I walked away from the game thinking that Haskins looked like an NFL QB.  Like a more polished version of Dak Prescott.

Stadium: Lucas Oil is the real deal.

Post Game:   Game got over too late and we are too old to add anything here.  On the drive home the next day on I-94 in Illinois I had one of the most surreal moments of my life.  It was about 1 in the afternoon and I was driving east. This stretch of I-94 is at least six lanes, might be eight.  Traffic was moderate but moving at between 60 and 70 mph.

I was on the right side of the road about a half mile from my exit when a small sedan appears on the horizon traveling the wrong way down I-94....probably doing about the speed limit.  I can't stress how little time you have to react in this situation.  I didn't even really have time to get scared until the car was already by me.  There were three of us in the car and we all kind of stopped for a second and acknowledged that what we had witnessed was pretty fucked up and went on with our lives.  Very bizarre.

Overall:  It was a great time. Sometimes the somewhat spontaneous trips are the best.
