Stagg Bowl (Division III Championship): Mary Hardin Baylor vs. North Central - 2021

Team:      Division III Championship

Year:       2021
Game:     Mary Hardin Baylor 57 North Central Illinois 24
Rating:    8
Cost Index:  Low
Stadium:  Tom Benson HOF Stadium
Attendees:  Bones, Clyde, Coach Cal

Overview:   My friend Clyde and I have long wanted to check out the Pro Football HOF. When the DIII National Championship decided to host their game in Canton this gave us the perfect incentive to make it happen. Two birds with one stone. Clyde is a college football referee and he had his 14 year old son with him.  He knew the ref that was working the game.

Pre-game:  It was a night game. We got to the hotel later on in the day so we ended up heading out for some BBQ at a spot called Mission BBQ and then heading over to the game on the early side.   Crowd was ok considering the circumstances. I would say the stadium was maybe 20 percent full.

Game Experience:  Stadium is next to the Profootball HOF.  Game was decent but not spectacular.  North Central took the opening kickoff back for a score and then Mary Hardin Baylor proceeded to slowly dominate the rest of the game.  We just kind of bounced around and watched the game from different angles.

Post Game:  Headed home

Stadium: Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium

Summary:  I find it interesting to be at any event where they crown a champion.  We had a good time at the game, but it was mainly uneventful.  The Pro Football HOF was really well done, if a bit outdated.  It's definitely worth the trip though.

  1. Great post, guys! I especially agree with your suggestion to find a good balance on how fast you travel. It can be easy it wants to see more, more, more, but traveling around so quickly makes it hard to work and just live life. You can’t go that pace for too long without burning out. Great advice — thanks for sharing!
