Stadium: Ohio Stadium (The Horseshoe)
I have long been an Ohio State hater, I've had bad experiences with their fans and their state in general. However I have to give credit where credit is due: Columbus and particularly the Horseshoe are big time....I mean BIG TIME. The Horseshoe might be the crown jewel of football stadiums. The band is definitely the top level as well, easily the most interesting and most fun I have seen. The Buckeye symbol looks a lot like a pot leaf.
Originally we tried to get to to this game in 2010:
But I completely underestimated the ticket market and we whiffed. This has happened to me a handful of times over the years -- spend a bunch of money to get to a place and then cheap out on the tickets. Steps have been taken to ensure it doesn't happen again. We end up spending a little more money for a lot more piece of mind.
The game itself was nothing to write home about, Illinois does not field a competitive team. However I will be making a return trip to Columbus in the future for a bigger game. With any luck West Virginia will schedule a Thursday night game sometime over the next couple of years.
If you want to make it part of a larger trip: West Virginia, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisville
