Description: I kicked off the first real trip of the year by hitting a Thursday night ACC matchup between the two ACC Tech schools. Honestly, a game like this is a lot better when you know a huge SEC tilt is 36 hours right afterward. Georiga Tech is the model for an urban campus. It integrates perfectly with the surrounding areas but it's also very clear when you are on campus. The stadium itself is nestled right in the south east corner of the campus steps from the North Ave. MARTA stop.
Atlanta is an underrated city in my opinion (GREAT skyline). I really like the people, it has a city like feel to it and it has it's own energy. Now people are going to (rightfully) say that Georgia Tech is a step below the big time but that's pretty much the entire ACC. Outside of the three big schools (V-Tech, Clemson and Florida State) the rest of the ACC schools don't sell out their games. Basketball is the conference's calling card football is not treated as life or death and this makes for a more relaxing experience.
As far as the game itself I took the train down to campus. I made my way to Peachtree street and grabbed a couple of beers at Gordon Biersch. They have a great outdoor patio and roofdeck. On recommendation from one of the bartenders I got another drink at Cypress Pint and Patio. This was the closest to a Georgia Tech bar that I found.
After that I made my way down to the stadium and scalped a ticket for 30 bucks. The atmosphere around there was pretty good, this was their big game and they had a decent tail gate considering there isn't much open space. They did not sell out the game and the crowd was not that loud. The game itself was sloppy and boring. Georgia Tech runs some shitty version of the pistol that has three basic plays: full back dive, QB option and curl/deep route pass option. This kind of strategy might work against Wake Forest but not against Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech was able to move the ball but they had a ton of penalties and other mistakes at key times that did them in.

Don’t Miss: Get there in time to see the Ramblin Wreck drive around the field (it drives around at half time if you miss it, they also put it outside the stadium for showcase before the game).
If you want to make it part of a bigger trip: Many options here for other games: Georgia, South Carolina, Clemson, Auburn, Alabama. Savannah, GA is about 4 hours away. Athens is an hour. Braves game, MLK Memorial, great food in Atlanta
