Arizona State (PAC 12) 2004

College:  Arizona State (PAC 12) 2004
Year:    2004
Games:   Arizona State 44  Iowa 7, New England 23 Arizona 12
Rating:   5 out of 10
Cost:  Low
Tickets:  Easy
Stadium:  Sun Devil Stadium:  Just a slab of cement in the middle of the desert.  I can’t believe an NFL team played here for so many years.  Then again, it was an NFL team that didn’t implement direct deposit until 2006
Description:   This is Phoenix’s entrant into the college football world and it proves to be very similar to its host city.  Not a bad place but overall boring and forgettable.   Evidently the kickoff was delayed 45 minutes by lighting? Didn’t remember that.
Outside of the game we actually had a shit load of fun on this trip.  The Patriots were playing out there the same weekend and we had a memorable meeting with a slutty New Hampshire woman in the hotel pool.  She was flirting with four assholes while her husband was 30 feet away.  Walter White was on this trip and ran around like a madman trying to score.  We saw a meth head in the hotel on checkout.   A very eye opening time in the desert!
The day after the game we went to see the Patriots vs. the Cardinals.  It was the game where they paid tribute to Pat Tillman, who is really a true hero in every sense of the word. Unfortunately what I remember from that game is the reaction by the fans to George Bush.  I’m not here to apologize for George Bush, he’s a complete pile of shit both as a President and as a man, but he was the President and he was honoring a man who died in service to his country.  The reaction by the fans (mainly from New England) was classless.    I also heard several people threaten to “cut” other people during the game for next to nothing.  Evidently getting threatened by stabbing is a focal part of the Phoenix football experience!
The football part of this Patriots vs. Arizona game was forgettable but it was clear that Vince Wilfork was going to be a pretty good player.  He was in the Cardinals backfield all day.  And is there a dumber name in sports than the Arizona Cardinals?  It was also ridiculous that they ever played a 1PM game in that stadium, especially in September.
Don’t Miss:  Playing in the pool with married, slutty women
Avoid:   Making ASU a focal point for a football trip.  It’s a “target of opportunity”

USC (PAC 12) 2004

College:  USC
Year:   2004
Game:  USC 49 Colorado State 0
Rating:  6 out of 10
Cost:  Moderate
Tickets:  Easy.
Stadium:  The Coliseum is a historical icon but it’s not a great place to see a game.  It’s too big so it never really gets loud.
Description:  The stadium is interesting and historic but if you have the wrong seat you can be extremely far from the action.  One of the few college stadiums where you can get beer!  Field is huge….the actual football field only takes up about 1/2 of the surface.
I don't really have too much to say about USC.  I mean I went to this game during the height of the Pete Carroll era (JACKED AND PUMPED!!!!).  It was more like attending a baseball game, kind of a leisurely feeling to it. I was so far from the field that I couldn't really hear the band (the noise kind of broke up by the time it got to us).
Don’t Miss: Not much going on around the stadium but plenty to see in LA.
Avoid:  The neighborhood around the stadium....though my understanding is that it's gotten a little better since I attended this game.
